Niko and Jose {Engagements}
Crazy yoga, adorable puppy and awesome couple. What more could you ask for in an engagement shoot?!
Collene is Cool
Yep! She sure is. Collene is an old friend from high school who is graduating this year. Earlier this year she come all the way up here to FOCO for a 20 minutes yearbook photo senior shoot. Stands to reason she would need some more! She came up last week to finish up where we left off. Here is the result.
SPJ Awards
Today marks a special day in my photography career. I can now officially take on the title of “Award-winning photographer”. This past weekend, the Society for Professional Journalists announced its “Mark of Excellence” award winners. Of the works entered, I received 5 awards (3 first place, 1 second place, 1 third place). The following are the pieces that won.
First Place - Online In-Depth Reporting (Notebook to Playbook) with Cris Tiller and Kevin Lytle
&
Second Place - Photo Illustration (Notebook to Playbook)
First Place - Breaking News (Bash Gone Bad)
First Place - Photo Illustration (Caitlin Stem)
Third Place - Breaking News (End of the Standoff
Yesterday in the Collegian we ran a special Basketball Preview section that featured both men’s and women’s basketball. With the commotion from our soon to be released “Notebook to Playbook” project and also trying to avoid copying our Football Preview from September, we honestly struggled developing a concept for this project. Finally we settled on this profile and dramatic portraiture. The women and men have different practice times so I had to do this photo shoot twice and make the light absolutely seamless since the players would be layered so close together. Luckily, it printed better than I think anything has this year. That is one problem working for a newspaper: newsprint. It will never capture your work as it looks on a high-res, color calibrated screen.
